Madrid, Spain. Over 15 000 people join in the annual Run for Your Life event.

The fun run, which has been steadily rising in popularity each year, broke all records in terms of participation, arrests and hospital admissions.

Event organizer Manuela Sanchez stated that both crowds and police made an effort to be at the starting-line from 6am. This resulted in both tensions and the weather being quite heated by 9am, when the event officially began.

Police Commissioner Eduardo Alvarez began proceedings by using the starter pistol to shoot leading dissident Alexis Fabien in the head.

University students variously described the event as “a riot”, “a good time”, “quite different to the cocktails and bars I’m used to”.

Chris Martin, the mellow frontman of UK pop band ‘Coldplay’ has broken up with his long-time companion Gwyneth Paltrow. The couple had been together for 5 years.

Paltrow is well-known for many films in which she plays the ‘ice queen’ love interest with one critic describing her as having “the consistent expression of a lemon tart.” She initially aroused media interest for her romances with a number of top Hollywood heart-throbs. Martin was in line after Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck and possibly Ashton Kutcher.

Often described as having a ‘wooden’ acting style she was awarded the Oscar for best actress in 1999. She gave an acceptance speech in which she cried, wept and spoke with a snotty nose for the entire 5 minutes.

In a surprising turn for the singer-songwriter, the new album for the band is filled with up-beat melodies and rocking life-affirming tunes.

“Why be so sad?”, Martin says. He is now considering a role as an afternoon DJ for a British radio station.
